"A week prior to Regional's and qualifying for this year's CrossFit Games I learned some very upsetting news… my mum had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She has recently undergone surgery to have the cancer removed, the procedure known as a mastectomy.
With the cancer advanced to a stage two category, my mother will now undergo further treatment of chemotherapy to ensure that any remnants of the cancer are completely removed.
Whilst advancements in medical procedures have made treatment more effective, there is still much to learn about what actually causes around 40 women in Australia to be diagnosed with breast cancer & the death of on average seven women every single day!
What currently is known is early detection can make a considerable difference to the survival rates of those women who will end up diagnosed with the disease.
This year is my final year of competing as an Individual Athlete at the CrossFit Games. For those of you who have enjoyed watching me compete over the past few years, and have followed and supported me along my journey, I thank you.
With the growth of the Sport of Fitness, many if not all of the athletes who compete at the higher level in CrossFit often survive off of the good will and support of the community of individuals who make CrossFitsuch a great environment to be involved with.
For me this year, rather than request that you may support me on my road to the Games by purchasing a supporter tee… I'd like to ask you something different.
Instead I would like to ask you to purchase a strictly limited edition T-shirt from TheBrave
For each and every T-shirt sold, 100% of any and all profit will be directly donated to National Breast Cancer Foundation
Like many families who are affected by cancer ... This is close to my heart.
Whilst I may not be Australia's first pick to win at this Year's CrossFit Games, I have decided in 2015 my goal is to demonstrate to everyone who will be watching on at this year's Games what Australian’s truly are made of.
To do this I will be competing with a personal pledge:
“My pledge is to perform to the best of my ability during each and every event during the 2015 The CrossFit Games and to match every single dollar raised through the sale of shirts and donate with any prize money awarded to me during the Games in Carson to Breast Cancer Research in Australia!”
If you want to be part of the solution, the good news is you can!
You too can make a difference with your very own personal pledge by simply purchasing a limited edition T-Shirt online here:
https://thebrave.com.au/athlete-tees
Then complete your pledge by sharing this link with a friend, relative or loved one… and ask that they may do the same.
Orders close midnight on 05/07/2015!
Your purchase could help save a life.
Be Brave. Be Strong. The choice is yours.#decisiontime
Signed with love, strength and passion,
Denae Brown
