Shotz Sports Nutrition
The Paleolithic diet has been linked to a healthy lifestyle for… well centuries. It is the optimal lifestyle diet. Devotees dine on lean meats, fruits and vegetables and nuts and seeds. The diet is devoid of nutritional newcomers including refined sugars and processed foods. The health benefits of this diet are not fictional; physicians at reputable universities have proven them.
I’m sure I don’t need to talk to anyone reading this blog about the intensity and diversity of Crossfit WODs. The challenge is the reason you come back day after day, year after year. It is the reason you will somehow find a way to do one more muscle up, even though your hands are ripped to the bone.
Crossfitters are the first to recognize that what you do isn’t the norm and believe me your nutritional requirements suggest this. While the paleo diet is perfect for day-to-day eating, it has some gaps when it comes to fuelling and replenishing the body for battle.
50 years of sports science has identified three main requirements for high intensity activity: water, sodium and carbohydrate. Water and sodium are necessary for hydration and carbohydrate to fuel the working muscles and the brain. Due to the mere nature of the paleo diet, it is inherently low in both carbohydrate and sodium. Using Shotz Sports Nutrition products during activity will provide these three components and will allow your body to function optimally at a higher intensity for longer (or shorter depending on the WOD).
Chris Hogan, winner of the 2012 Hard’nup Challenge consumed 5 energy gels and a tube of electrolyte tablets over the weekend.
“I must admit I was a bit skeptical about Shotz products. I sat down with these guys because I wanted to cover all bases before the Games. I tried the products for the first time at the Hard’nup challenge… It was a scorcher of a day yet I felt like I got stronger with each rep.” Chris Hogan
Over the next three days Shotz Sports Nutrition will be handing out Shotz energy gels and Shotz electrolyte drink at all night sessions. We will continue to supply free electrolyte drink throughout the Open for all competitors.
